Many people want to read more frequently, but it can be challenging to carve time out from our busy days. After a long day of work, Netflix may be more enticing than cracking open a brand new book, however making two small changes can give you the motivation you need. Giving myself deadlines to create a sense of urgency and immediately reading the first chapter of a new book to remove any fear of the unknown and break the task into more manageable chunks has led me to read more books than I ever imagined possible.

Habit #1: Check out books from the library to create a motivating deadline

As I read the news, browse opinion columns, and explore Medium articles, I note any interesting books the authors reference — you’ll be shocked how quickly the list grows! Once I’m on the computer or near my iPad, I’ll pull up my library’s catalogue and see if they have the book(s). Often they have them, but all of the copies are checked out, so I’ll place a hold. If the book is available and I already have a few other books checked out, I’ll add it to my library account’s Wish…
